The Premier standard rainwater range provides an offering of the UK and Ireland’s most popular designs of gutters and pipes to satisfy most installations. This can be complemented with compatible products from the extensive Premier sand cast rainwater range.
No other material offers the aesthetic appeal of cast iron, one which can satisfy all the requirements of traditional architecture. It is the logical choice for listed properties, conservation areas and heritage work.
Our cast iron round rainwater pipes are available in a choice of 65mm, 75mm, 100mm and 150mm diameters and in standard lengths of 0.6m, 0.9m, 1.2m and 1.8m and our loose pipe sockets with spigots enable cost saving through utilisation of pipe offcuts. The cast iron rainwater pipes are produced by the centrifugal cast method which offers uniformity of shape and thickness.
The Metal & Glass standard rainwater range includes 8 cast iron gutter profiles in a variety of different sizes with capacities up to 3 litres per second.
Our range of cast iron gutters and pipes is further enhanced by a wide selection of standard and ornamental rainwater heads.
We offer a selection of ancillary items to aid the jointing and installation of our cast iron gutters, pipes and hoppers including our half round gutter jointing kits which consist of 10 EPDM rubber gaskets, bolts, nuts & washers provide time saving at point of installation.
Cast iron rainwater pipes are highly resistant to distortion caused by accident or vandalism.
Unlike many alternative materials, cast iron gutters are able to withstand the weight of ladders for roof maintenance. In addition cast iron gutters will not bend and sag when subjected to heavy snow and storms.
Correctly installed and maintained cast iron rainwater systems can last in excess of 100 years. This long life expectancy makes cast iron the cost effective choice with whole life costs around a third of plastic rainwater goods.
Cast iron rainwater systems are 100% recyclable at the end of its life, meaning that they can be melted down and re-used time and time again. No other rainwater system can offer the environmental benefits that cast iron gutter and pipes can provide your project.
Low noise levels due to the sound deadening properties of cast iron so very little expansion and contraction in extreme temperatures therefore no noisy clicking, creaking or permanent deformation of gutters . When it comes to a soil system the low noise levels offered by cast iron are an obvious benefit as you don’t get to hear the contents of the toilet or shower passing through the house on the way to the drains.
Due to the many beneficial properties of cast iron, minimal maintenance is required for the castings provided by Metal & Glass Ltd. We recommend an annual inspection of rainwater, soil or drainage systems for clearance of debris and blockages. All painted surfaces should be cleared of any contamination and any deterioration of paint should be touched up.
The Hargreaves quality management system has been developed to meet the requirements of ISO9001:2015; It is a live system and they continuously develop, implement and improve the effectiveness of the quality management scheme and identify the interactions of their activities.
The Hargreaves Foundry Drainage Quality Management System is audited twice per year by both BBA and BSI as part of their BS EN877 certification. The Halifax Soil & Drain Systems has been certified as meeting all the requirements of BS EN877 by both BSI (Kitemark No; KM684754) and BBA (Certificate No; 06/4401). The above system also meets the Construction Products Regulations (CPR) and is CE marked accordingly.
Specialist castings and fabrications can be created to fit the specific requirements of your building (pattern charges may apply). Ears can be added to any standard rainwater fitting on request and rainwater heads can be customised with dates or embellishments.
In addition to our range of cast iron gutter profiles, we can also offer radius curved gutters in any of the standard profiles.
All rainwater products supplied by Metal & Glass Ltd are manufactured in accordance with BS460. Our traditional range of cast iron rainwater goods is primed in standard grey metal primer with rust inhibitors. The standards for rainwater goods have been in existence for a significant period of time which means that replacing or integrating with an existing system can, in most cases, be completed with ease.
Our rainwater systems are available in four levels of paint finish; Premier Grey Primed, Premier Extra Black Gloss, Premier Extra RAL Coloured and Premier Coastal.
Premier Grey Primed – an anti-corrosive high build primer, applied in factory conditions and ready for painting on site.
Premier Extra (PX) Black Gloss – 2 pack Polyurethane High Solids Finish.
Premier Extra (PX) RAL Colours – 2 pack Polyurethane High Solids Finish.
Premier Extra Coastal – 2 pack Polyurethane High Solids Finish.
Our pre-painted systems provide the following additional benefits:
Premier Coastal has been developed in response to the rigours of a marine environment, which is known to be much harsher on all external materials used in construction. Our standard Premier Extra (PX) Black and Premier (PX) RAL Colours will not provide suitable protection. Our standard 10 year life expectancy does not apply to coastal and marine environments and we recommend any location within 5Km of the sea should choose our Coastal finish.
